Concern for sustainability, environmental protection, and reducing environmental footprint is a constant in all events organized by ACP, and the bp ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal is no exception. With each event, the organization seeks to implement measures that promote resource reuse and waste reduction. Solutions extend to the elimination, or at least reduction, of single-use plastics.
For example, at the bp ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, 33cl water bottles were replaced with dispensing jugs and paper cups, strategically placed in all common areas accessible to organizers, press, and teams. Additionally, waste recycling is available in all administrative areas and the service park, with more complex or "dangerous" materials like oils and fuels properly contained, collected, and, in partnership with municipalities, directed to specific recycling centers.
All teams are thoroughly informed through official documents and, upon accreditation, receive a recycling kit to dispose of their waste. Furthermore, teams are required to have an environmental mat to contain any potential spills, preventing soil contamination.
With the same aim, safety team stations along the course are equipped with spill containment kits, comprising absorbent material and a shovel for initial intervention. If deemed insufficient, these stations immediately contact the organization to activate more extensive measures.
The social axis of sustainability.Sustainability is based on several pillars, and the social component also deserves special attention in this particular event. With the support of the Municipality of Grândola, the organization will daily donate all meals not served by the catering service to five social action organizations. This measure serves the dual purpose of supporting local organizations and reducing waste.
All energy and water consumption are monitored and evaluated at the end of the event so that, based on the collected information, concrete ideas or measures for reducing the use of these resources can be implemented.Even the layout design and planned routes take into account minimizing environmental impact and biodiversity. The concerns extend to the organization restoring any alterations that may have been made and repairing any impacts on the terrain. In fact, in some areas, the intervention even serves for area cleaning, reducing the risk of future fires. In other words, not only is the goal for environmental impact to be "zero," but in many cases, the event's passage is beneficial for the conservation of the area.
