Laia Sanz, the Spanish driver who, after many years competing on two wheels, made the switch to cars in 2021, is lining up at the start of the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal with ambition. Currently with the EBRO AUDAX MOTORSPORT team, she speaks with the motivation of someone who has already achieved success and wants even more.

According to the Spanish driver, “the project began last year, and we raced in Morocco and at the Dakar (...). I’m very happy to be here in Portugal for the first time, and on top of that to be racing at home in Badajoz, which is going to be great fun. As for the project, it’s great to be here because it will allow me to keep improving and working on the car, with the team continuing to learn, and I believe it will be important to clock up the miles,” concluded Laia Sanz.

Although young, the EBRO AUDAX MOTORSPORT team is gaining experience with every race, and a dozen people are accompanying the Catalan driver on this adventure. The challenge facing the driver and the team is enormous, as they compete against teams with far greater resources and experience: “It’s not easy when you look around and see big teams with big budgets, but (...) at the Dakar we proved we were competitive, we left a good impression, and I believe we have a solid foundation with the car, and that if we work hard we can go further,” the driver told us.

And in terms of ambition? For Laia, the vision is simple: to continue the progression that took her from two wheels to four: “For now, I want the project to grow and for the car to keep improving. I believe this is everyone’s goal, and also mine as a driver: to get more hours behind the wheel and keep learning. After all, we’re competing against teams that race all year round, which isn’t easy, but to keep up with them we have to try our absolute best, and the ambition [is to do better]. This year we finished in the top 20 at the Dakar, and we want to fight for a top 10 spot, if possible. I believe that if we do things right, we’ll succeed,” concluded Laia Sanz on the eve of the start of the third edition of the bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal.
